To Vape or Not to Vape? your New Year resolutions

People create New Years resolutions for many reasons. Resolutions like eating healthy, working out and quitting smoking are a few of the more popular resolutions made. According to Cancer.org smoking kills about six million people around the world every year, with at least 30 percent of the deaths being caused by cancer and other lethal diseases associated with smoking. One option that has gained momentum over the past few years has been vaping, or e-cigarettes, and many say this is a healthier option than traditional cigarettes.

Though the process of putting down the cigarettes is tough, despite the commonly known dangers and immediate health benefits of quitting, the vaping community believes that using e-cigarettes is one of the better smoking cessation alternatives in today’s society.

Professor Robert West, of UCL’s Department of Epidemiology and Public Health agreed that
“E-cigarettes are behaving like a souped-up nicotine patch, They are more popular than nicotine patches and may or may not be more effective. One-third of quit attempts use e-cigarettes which makes them by far the most popular method of stopping.”

In the vaping vs. smoking standoff, most people believe it’s the case where the lesser of the two evils wins. But is vaping really an evil that falls in the same category as smoking?

Many scientists suggested that policymakers should see e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation aid and not subject them to the same regulations as smoking.

To share my personal experience, when I moved to vape comparing to smoking, the things i noticed was my taste, my smell, my energy level all changed. I noticed after two weeks that my hacking and coughing started to slow. Those are just some of the benefits that I saw when I switched.

Though there are many positive aspects of vaping versus traditional smoking there are still several drawbacks as well. The flavored e-liquids and juices are said to be drawing a younger teen crowd into the vaping community, which could potentially lead them to smoking.

In conclusion, It is not unusual for one addiction to be replaced with another.  E-cigarettes appear to let many smokers stop smoking regular cigarettes.  That trend should be encouraged, while youth is educated on the dangers of the many newer forms of addiction.  However, when you vape to fulfill your cravings, make sure you don’t break any laws or disturb other people. Moreover, most e-liquids contain some percentage of nicotine, which can be dangerous if ingested. Therefore, always keep your vaping gear away from pets and children.
